Team GBR is made up of the British Equestrian Teams competing in: Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing, Driving, Endurance, Reining and Vaulting.
Team GBR has enjoyed great success on the World and European stage, winning many medals over the years. In the 9 years from 2000 to 2008 Team GBR has won:

  • 91 medals across Dressage, Eventing and Show Jumping at Youth Level
  • 63 medals in Para-Equestrian Dressage
  • 20 senior medals in the Olympic Sports
  • Three medals in Driving

The Olympic disciplines
The Olympic Games includes three equestrian disciplines; Dressage, Eventing and Show Jumping, plus the Paralympic Games which features Dressage. Team GBR is one of the best in the world at both Eventing and Para-Equestrian Dressage, with the two sports between them winning 22 medals in Athens and Beijing.

Youth teams
The three Olympic disciplines also compete in Pony, Junior and Young Rider competitions at European Championships each year: Great Britain currently has 3 European Champions; holds the team title in five competitions at this level and won 13 medals in 2008. In 2009 equestrian sport (Dressage and Show Jumping) was included in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival for the first time, and Britain came home with five medals, including Team Gold in the Dressage.

The non-Olympic disciplines
Team GBR competes outside the Olympic arena in four other internationally recognised disciplines: Driving, Endurance, Reining and Vaulting. These disciplines compete at both European and World Level.

The World Class Programme
Team GBR is underpinned by the Equestrian World Class Programme which is comprised of World Class Performance, World Class Development and the Equine Pathway.
The UK Sport funded Equestrian World Class Programme supports a pathway to success for eventing, show jumping, dressage and para-equestrian dressage athletes. The aim is to have in place a sustainable system that can deliver more medals on the international stage now and in the future.
The programme’s mission is to:

  • Identify talent
  • Maximise potential
  • Deliver Success

The three programmes work closely with the British Equestrian Federation Olympic Member Bodies; British Dressage, British Eventing and the British Show Jumping Association. Their own training and competition programmes work hand in hand with the programmes run within World Class.
