"Hi there,
now that three day eventing no longer has the steeplechase and roads and tracks in addition to the cross country on the second day, what impact has that had on how horses are prepared for competing please? Thanks, Katherine
H&C blogger and Olympic event rider Sharon Hunt replies:
"Hi Katherine. The simple answer to this question is that it hasn't changed at all. The speed is still the same - fast galloping across country - but with more twists and turns requiring more gear changes hence tiring a horse just as much. I do exactly the same trainng wise now as I did before; I think the three days now just take less out of the horses (and their legs). It still helps to have a more blood (thoroughbred) horse as they are easier to get and keep fit with fewer miles on them. Hope this helps. Best wishes, Sharon."
