HELP! How do I make my pony go forwards?

A quiet leg is more effective than nagging

"Hello, my name is Kelsey. I have a 14.2hh New Forest pony. He is really lazy, but I don't want to use spurs and he is not scared of the crop.I have tried all sorts of foods. How do I get him to be more forward going?"

H&C blogger and Olympic eventer Sharon Hunt replies:

"Hi Kelsey, I would try hacking him out behind others and take him for canters so that he enjoys life and wants to go forward more. Also to try not to keep on at him; sometimes some horses go slower the more you get at them, only use an aid to go forward then be quiet so he learns to go off a light leg."
