How can I become an event rider?

Sharon says becoming a working pupil is a good way to learn the eventing ropes

"Dear H&C, I absolutely love horses and have two of my own. In the future, I would like to be a famous eventer - a little bit like Zara Phillips - but I don't know where to start. Please could you give me a few tips? I would also like to know of anyone who would like a summer groom or needs help over the summer term. Yours sincerely, Loren."

H&C blogger and Olympic eventer Sharon Hunt replies: "How about looking on people's websites to see who is looking for staff or who has an email address and contact them via that. The best thing to do is to become a working pupil so you can see how yards work, what the various staff do, etc. There's more to being a great event rider than you'd realise!"
