"Hi, I'm Tracy and just wanted to ask for some tips on getting a young colt to trust humans. He has had no human contact until I took him on about two weeks ago. He sniffs me and stretches out, but as soon as I go to touch him, he jumps back. He has got quite aggressive and box reared a few times. He has started to make me nervous as I don't know what he will do next. I just want him to trust me and let me stroke him so he can see how nice it will be. Please - if you have any ideas I would be very grateful and I will try anything. He is a gypsy coloured cob." Tracy Trussell
H&C blogger and Intelligent Horsemanship's Kelly Marks replies: "Hi Tracy, in our 'Handling the Untouched Horse' courses we start the horses off in a safe enclosed area and before trying to touch them with our hands, we stroke them with a bamboo pole first. However they react ,we can remain calm as we're out of harm's way. In your circumstances though, I'd strongly recommend you get some experienced help and if you go to my website (link below) you can see a list of specialist trainers who I personally recommend. Kindest regards, Kelly Marks."
