Anna started having a lesson once a fortnight at her local riding school aged nine, and when she was 22 Pammy Hutton and Adam Kemp spotted her talent. She competed on a variety of riding school horses and trained a Cleveland Bay called Mr Bojangles up to intermediaire I level. Anna won her first international grand prix during the 2007 Spanish Sunshine Tour and made her British team debut at the 2007 Saumur CDIO. In 2008, she won the inaugural Dressage Personality of the Year, which was voted for online by British Dressage members. In 2010, Anna rode her current grand prix horse Pegasus MK at Samur and is currently contesting the 2010-2011 World Cup circuit. Anna continues to compete and is a hugely respected trainer in the UK. In 2010 founded Alltogether Equestrian to train a team of talented horses in Culworth.
What would you do if you didn’t ride horses? Definitely teaching, I really enjoy training and improving clients. If it had to be something away from the horses I would be a chef.
Why did you decide to go into dressage? I saw a lecture demo with Pammy Hutton which inspired me to travel down by train to Talland, where they offered me a scholarship. I realised I should go into dressage when I did my BHS stages and when I passed my stage four jumping crying and holding the mane, I decided right there that I would never leave the floor ever again!
How often do you muck out? I've just moved yards to start a new business, Altogether Equestrian, I've had to muck in and muck out while I've been setting up. I don't mind mucking out, it's good exercise.
Who has the best yard you’ve visited? Obviously our new yard in Culworth, Oxfordshire.
What was the last thing you bought a ticket for? Priscilla Queen of the Desert, for my sister's birthday. This gave me a bit of inspiration for our performance at Emile Faurie's charity event, Strictly Come Dressage.
Why do you think Matthais Alexander Rath was chosen as Totilas’s rider? Because he has great financial support and Germany needed a superstar horse.
When was the last time you went on holiday? I don't really do holidays - I'm not very good at sitting around with nothing to do. I went to Jersey for a couple of days with my friend Roland Tong and had a ball there though.
Whose horse would you like to own? I love my own horses and am very happy that I have them to ride.
What was your first job? I started off doing a sandwich round to fund my riding lessons.
When did you last kick yourself? Every day!
How do you relax? I love cooking and sitting down to a dinner party with my friends.
Who do you think will be the one to watch this year? Would have to be Alex Hardwick, who won the advanced medium restricted national final this year. She's a very dedicated and natural rider and would, in my opinion, be one for the future on senior teams.
What is your top tip for H&C website visitors? Firstly don't quit and second, horse riding is the art of keeping the horse between you and the ground.
