Top international show jumper Tim Stockdale first represented Great Britain in 1988. He has now represented his country on no less than 47 occasions in Nations’ Cup teams including, the 2002 World Equestrian Games, the 2008 Olympic Games in China and the 2009 European Championships. In early 2010, he served as Chef d’Equipe for the victorious Great Britain team in Nations’ Cup contest in Abu Dhabi. A national treasure, Tim answers our quick fire questions below.
What would you do if you didn’t work with horses? Probably farm work but I’d loved to have been a cricketer.
Why did you decide to go into show jumping? It seemed like a sport that I could earn a living in.
How many horses do you ride a day? Between four and six.
Who has the best yard you’ve visited? Dinmore Stud, Herefordshire.
What was the last thing you bought a ticket for? The cinema to take my boys to see Avatar.
When was the last time you went on holiday? I went skiing in January 2010.
Who is the person who inspires you the most? Steve Redgrave.
Whose horse would you like to own? Lamm de Fetan.
What goes through your mind as you enter the ring? I am going to jump clear.
When did you last kick yourself? Can’t remember!
How do you relax? Witha glass of wine.
Who is the one to watch this year? Matthew Sampson.
What is your greatest achievement to date? My two sons.
What is your toptip for H&C users? There's no such word as can’t, you will or you won’t. Don’t give up.
