A 16-year-old rider has beaten a class of 50 top showjumpers, including Tina Fletcher and Michael and Ellen Whitaker, to win a 1.50m Grand Prix.

Biggest win

Jessica Mendoza was one of eight to make it into the jump-off at Addington Manor, Buckinghamshire, and she set a fast clear early on with Nuggets L’Amandour. Her time proved too quick to beat and she went home £9,000 the richer.

The showjumping legend, ET, who was one of the world’s first horses to be cloned, has been put to sleep aged 27.

Leading showjumper

ET was ridden and owned by Hugo Simon, a leading Austrian showjumper, who competed in six Olympics between 1972 and 1996. In 1992 he won a silver medal onboard ET’s field mate Apricot D, who was also euthanised aged 29.

Guadalajara has been stripped of its right to host the 2015 FEI World Cup Jumping and Dressage finals.

Failed to make the grade

The Mexican city was awarded the event in June 2012, but according to the FEI it was unable to meet all of the contractual obligations.

"The FEI truly appreciates the efforts that the Guadalajara organisers put in to try and meet all the requirements," said FEI secretary general Ingmar De Vos. "But as they were unable to fulfil them within the agreed timeline, the FEI Bureau was left with no choice but to withdraw the finals.”
