"On Friday, I was presenting for H&C from Stoneleigh in Warwickshire at the last ever Royal Show.
The show ground seemed as busy as I ever remember it, with agricultural trade stands reporting lots of interest and sales. It just seems such a shame as more Brits are looking to do things in the UK, and food and farming is the buzz topic. But the Royal has lost its way and decided to end.
The farming world has certainly become much more technical and in some ways more innovative so specialist shows like the Pig and Poultry Fair, Cereals or the Dairy and Livestock Show attract farmers from specific areas of agriculture and these have reduced the number of core farming stands at the Royal. Many people I spoke to have very fond memories of the Royal from over the years; there have been a total of 160 Royal Shows and winning a rosette in any of the classes carries a lot of kudos. To win the prestigious Burke Trophy for the best pair of beef animals, means a huge amount to the breed that wins and the owner of the animals gains recognition for their herd and a significant lift in the value of their stock.
I had a great day and just maybe it will come back in a slightly different format."
