"A very stressful morning turned into a very successful afternoon on Monday this week. We were competing at Wellington Riding in freestyle to music classes.
We had intended to take three horses but due to staff illness in the morning we had to withdraw Delboy (Headmore Delegate) from the medium as we would never have been able to get there on time! This meant that we were just taking Wizard (Wurlizer) and Olivia (Ella) a Dutch bred mare owned by Amy, whom I was only competing as Amy can’t ride at the moment.
Between Andrew and I, we had both horses ready and on the lorry on time - quite an achievement in the circumstances! First on was Ella in the advanced medium. I had never competed her before and Amy had told me I had to have her quite wound up! Both Amy and I were very pleased with the test, the difficult canter work came off and she was powering along. We scored 72% and won, much to everyone’s amazement! Ella and I then did the Prix. St. Georges (PSG). The trot work felt better than in the advanced medium and the canter pirouettes weren’t bad, but mistakes in the changes proved costly and kept our score at 67.13%. However, Amy and I were very pleased with both tests.
It was then Wizard's turn in the PSG. He was very pleased to be out having not competed in a while, however this meant there were a few moments in the test when he was a bit over the top… but at least he was enjoying himself. His way of going was much better and he felt very secure in his work. Despite the moments of exuberance, we scored 70.88% and won.
Having been very hectic, it turned out to be a really successful trip, a double win."
