Ann Egan

Our new blogger introduces herself...
Hello! I’m new here! My name is Ann Egan and my husband Tim and I own North Point Farm in Litchfield, Connecticut, U.S.A. We breed, train and show champion registered Percheron horses. I am excited to be able to share our horses, our farm and our family with all of you in my blog.
The farm is located on Prospect Mountain in the northwest hills of Connecticut, in southern New England. It is a beautiful setting for a horse farm. Every day I marvel that my “office” is made up of beautiful green fields, scenic mountain views and my office mates are wild turkey, coyote, bobcat, bears, goats and all manner of birds and butterflies. As I drive my horses, I feel blessed to feel sun on my face and wind in my hair, clichéd as that may sound!
We have horses on the farm ranging in age from foal to 13-years-old. North Point is home to an All-American mare as well as many All-American nominee mares. Our horses have many, many championships between them and all are special in their own way. With the exception of our current foal crop, all our adult horses are mares.
Breeding on the farm
We do all of our own breeding here on the farm, from ultra-sounding to artificial inseminations to embryo transplants. My husband Tim thoroughly enjoys the reproduction work that he does and he is excellent at it, achieving a 100 per cent success rate on foal heats on our mares this year. I am very proud of him!
This year was apparently the year of the colt, as for the last two years, only fillies have been born on the farm. This year, beginning in February, one colt after another was born until there were three. The last foal of the year arrived at the end of May, a pretty little filly we call “just Lilly”. While Lilly may be the youngest, she is the most vocal and given the chance, would run the colts!
We have both halter horses and driving horses. I enjoy driving my cart mare, Victoria, in the ladies and registered mare cart classes. Victoria, in her youth was a lead horse in the World Champion six mare hitch twice and she is the consummate equine athlete. She seems to enjoy showing even at her advanced age and shows no signs of stopping. Tim excels at halter classes with the girls and he drives cart, mare team classes. I am sure that I will have lots to share with you about the mares in the coming months as our show season begins.
Please keep up with us here on our blog, on our webpage, North Point Farm or follow us on Twitter. I look forward to getting to know all of you!
