Ben Bowerman graduated from the Royal Agricultural College in 1986 after completing a two year farm management course. Prior to this he spent a year in Canada working on two farms in Alberta. On graduating he returned to the family farm in Swanage where he ran the 130 cow dairy herd for a further two years before starting a diversification business selling the water from the natural springs at Godlingston Manor. That has metamorphosed into one of the country’s biggest water cooler bottling operations, now contract bottling for Aquaid Franchising Ltd, supplying a network of franchises throughout the country.

The 450 acre farm now has a beef suckler herd grazing 300 acres of conservation ground with the rest used for winter forage and horse grazing. The stables in the Victorian range of buildings are let on a DIY basis. A committed Christian, Ben is a firm believer in business ethics and believes that wealth creation and honesty can run side by side in the commercial world. He is married to Catherine, a solicitor, and has two children, George, aged 11, and Isabel, aged nine. His non-business interests include playing saxophone, helicopter flying and he sits as a magistrate on the East Dorset bench.
