Beth is a freelance marketing communications professional and student of the Parelli horsemanship program. Beth's family was not horsey, but she fell in love with horses at a very early age, drawn by their beauty, power and grace. She grew up begging her parents for riding lessons and dragging them and her sister on treks when on family summer holidays. As a teenager she rode in Ashdown Forest whenever possible.
Following university and a business career in London, Beth took a break from horses, but at the age of 35 was finally able to fulfil a long-time dream in 2005 when she went on a five-day cattle drive in Montana, USA, moving 700 head of cattle from their winter home on the prairie to their summer home in the mountains. Her love of riding rekindled, she set out to find a similar experience in the UK. She found a place on Dartmoor that advertised “western” riding holidays over miles of open moorland. It was here that Beth discovered the Parelli program, drawn instantly by its underlying philosophies and principles. A strong desire to learn more eventually lead to her buying her first horse Solero, an American Paint mare in August 2006.
In April 2007 Beth passed the Parelli Level One assessment and later that year decided to accelerate her learning by attending a six-week course at the Parelli centre in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. In 2008 Beth passed the first part of the Level Two assessment (‘online’ ground skills) and the second part (‘freestyle’ riding) in 2009. She is currently studying Level Three of the program which involves three areas of learning (online, freestyle, and liberty) and is in the early stages of the fourth and final area of learning in the Parelli program, Finesse, where riding with a contact is introduced.
Keen to support the Parelli program nationally, Beth has worked as a volunteer at several Parelli events and been part of the support team at events where Parelli had a presence, including the Royal Windsor Show, the British Open Showjumping Championships, Festival of the Horse, the Horse of the Year Show and Your Horse Live. In 2009 Beth became course co-ordinator for Sussex-based Parelli professional Terri Martinus, and in August 2010 was invited by Parelli to support their social media activities in the UK and Europe. Beth is also part of an 80+ and growing group of Parelli students in Sussex who meet regularly for horsemanship clinics, workshops, play days, tournaments and other social activities. She also continues her job as a marketing communications director for an IT analyst firm.
Beth is currently attending a four-week Fast Track course at the Parelli centre in Ocala, Florida. She aims to eventually qualify as a licensed Parelli instructor and pursue her interest in dressage.
