Jamie Anderson
Jamie had his first experience with horses at the age of six, when he was encouraged to attend riding lessons by his mother; who herself was an accomplished horsewoman. Although he realised early on that he had an affinity with horses, it was clear from those first few encounters that he was not going to be a gifted rider!
Jamie attended Abingdon School in Oxfordshire, where he developed strong interests in the sciences and particularly in biology. He also excelled in competitive sport, rowing for Great Britain on various occasions, culminating in a World Championship Gold with the Junior team.
He subsequently gained a place at Keble College at the University of Oxford to read physiological sciences, where he specialised in equine reproductive physiology (and sadly had to retire from rowing due to injury). Jamie spent many weeks in the embryology and spermatology laboratories at the University gaining invaluable experience in harvesting and processing of animal germplasm. At the same time he was able to combine this laboratory work with practical applications at studs around the UK, as well as jointly running a busy livery and training yard in Gloucestershire.
After completing his degree, Jamie furthered his training with experts from across the globe including Dr Guillermo Balbuena of the CRIA embryo transfer centre in Argentina, Jos Mottershead & Kathy St Martin of Equine-Reproduction.com in Oklahoma, the Kellogg Arabian Horse Centre at California Polytechnic, and at the Equine Reproduction Lab at Colorado State University.
After managing the AI centre at a small stud near Gloucester, Jamie founded Equine Reproduction Ltd in 2007. Since then he has become recognised as one of the most progressive and forward thinking equine reproduction specialists in the UK. Over the past few years, Jamie has worked closely with a number of studs across the UK, but in March 2011 set up a dedicated unit near Reading, Berkshire. The centre caters for a wide range of breeding needs including stallion semen collection, subfertility treatment and semen freezing, research and development of new breeding products, and running a number of courses to help educate breeders from all over the EU.
