Well, the weekend was fantastic. We were at the BBSH Stallion Event all day on Saturday with a trade stand, and we had a great time. Our chocolate sperm went down a treat (geddit?); we took over 200 with us, and they were all gone by 7.30pm (two and a half hours before the event finished), and the response was overwhelmingly positive. We noticed a couple of disgusted looks from passers by; but with over 1000 people coming to the event, a 0.2% (visible) disapproval rating was pretty good, I think. Clayton Fredericks even took three tubes of chocolate sperm home with him “for Lucinda”... yeah right, Clayton!
Thanks to everyone that made the event such a roaring success – Cat Wood and Jan Rogers at the BEF did a fantastic job to make it all happen, Lynne Crowden worked tirelessly to give an entertaining and informative commentary, and obviously it couldn't have been such a success without the stallions and their owners; so thank you to them too!
We were especially lucky to have international visitors: Bernard Le Courtoir from France, and Emma Hindle (Brookhouse Stud) from Germany... it was so good of them to make the trip over with their fantastic stallions many of which were at the show thanks to The Stallion Company, who are working hard to make international stars available to British Breeders. An amazing day! If you missed it, there is another stallion show (Stallion Showcase GB) this weekend (5th and 6th February) at Addington Manor. We will be there (but no chocolate sperm, unfortunately), so come and say hello!
Sunday was, for once, a full day of rest – we ended up in Wales seeing some friends, sitting in front of the fire with the doggies, and having a few glasses of wine (and a couple of gins) and eventually eating a rather spicy, but very tasty, stir fry.
We have our next AI course coming up from 18th-20th February to be held at Home Farm Stud, Hartpury College; so if you want to get your AI Techician's exemption, which allows you to legally inseminate mares then get in touch and book a place. It's an absolutely brilliant - and thoroughly enjoyable - course and is always very highly recommended by all those who attend it.
So with that, it's full steam ahead for the next week or two before we get into the stud season properly... Bring it on!
