New groom & stallions; foal watch begins

Jamie founded Equine Reproduction Ltd in 2007. Since then he has become recognised as one of the most progressive and forward thinking equine reproduction specialists in the UK. More recently, Equine Reproduction has found a home at Pelion Stud in Berkshire, where Jamie has a DEFRA approved semen collection, processing, storage and export unit. In his exclusive blog, Jamie shares his experiences during the breeding season.
"No blogs for ages - sorry! Firstly, I must welcome our new head groom – Louise Garland. Lou has a dog called Harvey and a show cob called Wally. She has done a fab job whipping everyone back into shape, and the stud is now looking bright, clean and tidy again ready for the stud season.
Our first few mares are now in their foaling boxes ready for foaling down. I’m not going to talk about due dates, because horses don’t have due dates! They have foaling ranges (of 320-370 days after conception), so we like to keep a close eye on them throughout that range.
This month we are welcoming some fabulous new stallions into the stallion unit. Our new residents include: The 2004 World Eventing Champion Grafenstolz; The stunning palomino dressage star Treliver Decanter; 2007 Futurity Champion Zubin-R; The rare cremello warmblood McJonnas; International jumping pony Indien de Here; and the skewbald sport horse Puzzle’s Starstruck. We’re so honoured to have such a fantastic selection of stallions standing with us this year!
We’re also now an Equine-Reproduction.com approved freezing centre, which means that we have achieved high standards in semen collection and processing. If you’ve never been to Equine-Reproduction.com’s website, I would strongly suggest you have a look – it’s probably the best breeding-related resource in the world!
It’s now less than a week until the PSHP’s stallion parade (21st March 2010). There are a huge number of fantastic stallions going, which is very exciting… I hope to see lots of you there. Please come and say hello!
I would imagine that next time I write a blog, we will have the first few foals here…"
