“In my last blog, I was explaining why fishing is so much fun and a recent sunny, Spring Sunday really confirmed that for me. It was my great pleasure to act as guide to two brothers, Aaron and Reece, and their granddad at the Kingfisher Lake in mid-Norfolk. Our targets were simple: a fish bigger than seven ounces for fifteen-year-old Aaron and one topping two pounds for thirteen-year-old Reece.
So we decided to pike fish. Rubber, single-hooked lures seemed the obvious way to go for maximum ability and excitement and for the ease of unhooking. Pike are snaggly-toothed critters and the less dentistry you have to perform on them the better!
The day couldn’t have been better, with constant action in the sunshine. We had pike that absolutely hammered into our plastic, fish-like lures, and acrobatic pike too - cart wheeling in the sunshine! The kids were really excited, and I was blown away with the adrenaline of it all. After seven hours, we’d caught thirty pike and all of us simply slumped exhausted under the willow trees.
A big thank you to granddad, Peter. It was his idea to come to Norfolk, book a day and convince the boys that fishing really can be a sport for life.”
