Horseball competitor Judith Lucas is 22-years-old and has riding since she was five. As a child, she took part in the usual children’s activities in the Pony Club, before discovering horseball.
Judith owns a 16hh 13-year-old Thoroughbred called Ellie. Ellie is a typical ex-riding school horse that has really found herself within the sport. Judith has been playing horseball since she was 13-years-old, initially for the South Causey junior team and winning the junior league and open championships in 2004.
Judith now plays for the South Causey senior team with her younger sister, Suzanne. The team is made up of three sets of sisters and is currently the only all female team in Britain playing against mixed and all male squads.
Last year, her team at South Causey accumulated the most wins over 2008 and are now playing against the best players in the country. The team is now focusing on improving their riding and the ability of their horses in preparation for selection into the Ladies International competition 2011.
Judith lives with her partner David Worthington, who also has a family rooted in equestrianism and is a member of the Great Britain Horseball Team, in Nottingham where she is studying Sports Horse Management and Training (FDSC) and hopes to take her UKCC coaching certificates to allow her to train others and set up a team at Nottingham University.
