Lou Talintyre is a Western rider, trainer, breeder and owner of Monty Roberts show horse, Jays Master Copy.
Over the last eight years, Lou has become well known in the UK’s Western scene. Not only has Lou made a impact as a Western enthusiast but has also made a huge contribution to equine nutrition and well-being through her involvement in the creation, launch and development of a brand new feed company – The Pure Feed Company. Based on the principle that horses have evolved to eat high fibre diets, all products in the Pure Feed range are fibre based, are very low in starch and sugars and thereby supply calm energy to help to prevent a multitude of problems such as gastric ulcers, azoturia and excitability. With an increasing number of owners realizing the benefits to their horses of the Pure Feed philosophy, Lou and the rest of the team at Pure Feed look set to become busier and busier!
Lou’s thirty plus years involvement with horses have helped her at the age of only 38 become one of the countries leading up and coming horsewomen. Through this period Lou has developed her own style of teaching which she passes on to students through her Natural Riding school based at the Mendip Stud in Somerset which Lou has spent the last eight years developing with her partner John. The Mendip Stud is now recognised as one of the countries foremost Western and Natural Horsemanship centres.
Monty Roberts uses Lou’s, now famous quarter horse, Jays Master Copy as his show horse on his UK tours. Lou and Copy appear regularly at major equine events and fairs throughout the country and have also travelled to show their skills in Europe.
Copy is due to tour again with Monty Roberts and Kelly Marks in their Autumn tour and Lou with Copy are to appear later in the year as a guest performer in Tanya Larrigans Christmas spectacular the ‘Magic Of the Horse’.
Lou is really enjoying sharing her experiences through her blog on Horse and Country where she shares the toings and froings of her life in and around the western community as well as sharing the day to day activities involved in running a training yard, breeding centre and large equestrian centre.
