"I've had a very busy week and it's still not over yet. With it being a Bank Holiday, I have an event on Monday at Highclere with the Intermediates.
I can honestly say I haven't covered as many miles in a week in for a long time, or had such a big fuel bill! It’s all been very productive though. I've been working on water mainly with Imp (Impulsive), as this appears to be his Achilles' heel and I’ve also been taking the others out ready for the week ahead. Tweedy (Silbato) has been Imp's travelling companion too as he has his first Intro on Sunday, and I’m very excited about that.
As it's now nearly the end of the season, I'll put everything I've got into the last events. After these, that’s it for four months so I can rest then.
Thursday was marked by a trip to Leighton Buzzard to train with Anna Ross Davies. I had lessons with five horses, which were very enjoyable and educational – all worked in different ways to achieve the same result. They all went very well and my understanding is vastly increasing with each lesson. I love that, as I thrive from learning and improving. I was particularly disappointed then when my horses performed good tests at Milton Keynes on Saturday and gained poor marks – sadly I suppose we can't please all the judges. This did mean I finished on my dressage score in the Open Novice with Romeo (Romeo Z) and came nowhere – 15th. Beanie (Breeze IV) had a very annoying and silly stop – largely my fault, which was a shame as he was going beautifully. He'll get there.
Sunday saw another early start back to Milton Keynes with Tweedy (Silbato) for his first event. He performed a wonderful test a clear SJ and a brilliant XC round, except for a small spook at some cardboard cut out animals next to a jump. It’s a shame but not bad for his first event. He had many admirers as he truly is a beautiful horse.
All in all a very good week, working up to some big events in October I hope. Sadly, I won't be competing at Burghley this year as Jasper (Tankers Town) had a small setback a couple weeks ago with a boot rub and missed some work so he will not be fit enough. Luckily there is a 4* at Pau (France) so this is his new destination via Bonn-Rodderberg with Kenny (Kenny) on 10th to 13th September. I will be at Burghley, however, visiting various sponsors’ stands on Friday and Saturday so hope to see everybody there."
