"It has been a very busy week again – I was out everyday doing something. I went for lessons with Anna Ross Davies, which were very helpful. She really inspires me and I leave feeling much more focused and knowledgeable and although I only had lessons with three horses, all the information I learned I can apply to the other horses’ training too. I took Tweedy (Silbalto) for the first time and Anna was very impressed. This winter I am determined to become a dressage queen!
I decided to go to Addington this week jumping. It takes me two hours to get there but it was well worth the trip. I jumped Tweedy, who was superb – third in the Discovery out of 50 and he jumped well in the 1 05 too. Romeo (Romeo Z) was a little spooky in the Newcomers but then I realised he had never jumped indoors before and in the next class he was much better and just had the last fence down in the 1 15. I also jumped Imp (Impulsive) who was great – much straighter now and his jump is really starting to develop. I had a fence down in each class but jumped good rounds. I will be back next Tuesday – it was well run and the tracks were very good. I was back quite late but it was well worth it.
I had another trip down to London again too for the EHOA (Event Horse Owners Association) meeting of which I am a board member. We had a good meeting – there are now more members so lots of input and fresh ideas. I feel for me it's a way of putting something back into my sport. After all these days out I did decide to stay at home for one day, however I spent it in the afternoon catching up on administration and paperwork for six hours (and I am still not finished) – anyone who thinks an event rider’s job is easy would be very wrong, we have to have many strings to our bows! Admin work is very time consuming and I often end up putting it off. Something I'm trying not to do now.
On Friday, John Thelwall came to teach me on Imp with whom he was impressed by the improvement made and ditto Romeo. We worked on their straightness (again!) and my approach to the fence, not turning too early etc. I also had my first ever lesson on Bomber who was excellent and very grown up. I jumped Charlie (my new horse) as well – John liked him so I am delighted as he gets better daily and I really, really like him; he should be a lovely horse.
Well, with all this training I went to the fireworks in Ipswich on Saturday night and had dinner out – it was a good night although it was very cold, winter has arrived!"
