The BEF has announced that the proposed 2009 Foal Show, to which all Futurity entries gaining Elite and First Premiums were to be invited, organised by the Lead Body for British Performance Sport Horses and Ponies (PSHP) is to be postponed until next year.
There is to be no Championship show this year; The BEF cite feedback regarding travelling foals long distances to a show that may be badly attended as the cause for the cancellation.
In a statement, the BEF said: “A proposal is made that the foal show 2009 is postponed with a view to it becoming a much higher profile PSHP champions’ show, gala and sale, for which all Futurity Elite and First Premium horses of every age will qualify in 2010.”
Jan Rogers of the BEF plans to recruit volunteers early next year to ensure smooth running of the event: “Each team member will undertake specific tasks to ensure that this event meets expectations – that it is publicised, commercial opportunities are made available, buyers are made aware of the quality of horses available to purchase and are motivated to attend, the event has prestige and appeal and that negotiations are made to televise the event such that it will be regarded as a perpetual key date in the calendar for British breeding.”
