In May 2007, producer and 4* event rider Claire Lomas had a freak accident while competing at Osberton Horse Trials.
She collided with a tree which resulted in fractures to her neck, back and ribs. She suffered a punctured lung, pneumonia, had to have a tracheotomy to help her breathe and was in intensive care for 10 days. The fracture in her back caused damage to Claire's spinal cord, but she has never lost focus on her determination to walk again and spends hours working on her rehab with a fantastic team of physiotherapists.
On Saturday 16th January 2010 there will be an evening of fun, frolics and fashion at Newbury racecourse in aid of Spinal Research and the Claire Lomas Walk Campaign.
It will include a fashion show featuring high profile riders from eventing, dressage, show jumping and racing modelling equestrian and non-equestrian clothes, a two course dinner, auction, live band and a free newbury race day pass.
The riders will spend the afternoon being given tips from Laura Toogood (former European team Young Rider and now a professional catwalk model), ready to strut their stuff for the evening show.
Tickets are £45 or £55 and tables are for 10, but will also take small groups. For tickets, send a cheque and SAE to Claire Lomas, The Chestnuts, Eye Kettleby, Melton Mowbray, Leics LE14 2TD. Cheques payable to 'Claire Lomas Walk Campaign'.
