New horse breeders 'magazine' proves popular

The online magazine caters for a wide variety of people

Horse Breeders Magazine is a new online magazine focusing on the equine breeding industry in the UK and Ireland. Launched in October of this year, the online magazine is already receiving excellent reviews and readership.

The magazine caters for all rungs of the breeding ladder: Members include hobby and professional breeders, stallion owners, mare owners and those that just find breeding interesting.

The articles are contributed by members; be they seasoned breeders or those embarking upon breeding their first foal. Everyone is welcome to participate in each online issue, regardless of the type of horse or pony they breed.

Horse Breeders Magazine is an extension of the Horse Breeders Forum, the brainchild of Lynne Busson of DJ Stud and Caroline Ironside of MFS Stud in Scotland. As Lynne says: “The benefits of this type of magazine are huge. It is dynamic, we have far more scope than paper magazines as we can change the content instantly and on a daily basis. For example, if a breeder advertises their stud or stallions with us for the year and the terms change, or they want to use different photographs, or add information etc, we can update them immediately. We also add news as it happens and I believe we provide a much wider service for those advertising their horses too. We offer a slideshow alongside the advert so that several photos can be shown without taking up more page space on the page."

"Mostly, breeders in this country have more or less had to put up with what they have been offered in the larger magazines which focus on all aspects of equestrianism, rather than just the breeding side of things. Our magazine is driven by the content provided by our readers. They tell us what they are interested in and we give them an outlet for their stories, ideas and expertise.”

Its partner, The Horse Breeders Forum, aims to foster a friendly environment in which members can chat and ask advice. "I have found this forum and the magazine invaluable as I have taken my first tentative steps into breeding," said one member. "When I first joined, I was nervous about posting as I thought I might be laughed off the forum, but I have found everyone very helpful and willing to share their experiences."

The magazine will be further developed over the coming months and any enquiries regarding advertising space or stories to be submitted can be made via admin@horsebreedersmagazine.com. New year issues will offer stallion owners a chance to showcase their horses, ahead of the 2010 breeding season.
