Following last year's Nations Cup fiasco and confusion over criteria for separating teams tied on points, the FEI ruled that Britain, Belgium and Italy would be relegated to the second-tier promotional league for 2010. Originally only Italy was relegated, but then the FEI reversed its decision and announced Britain and Belgium would also face the axe.
The furious BEF lodged an appeal, along with the BSJA and today anounced that their appeal has been rejected. The organisation has now lodged their appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
In 2009, the Nations Cup comprised eight events from May to August, including a leg at Hickstead in July with 10 teams competing.
For 2010, Spain and Canada have been promoted, giving a nine-strong field in 2010. The relegation from the Top Level Nations Cup would be a set back for the British team as they work their way to WEG in Kentucky and the 2012 Olympics.
