H&C blogger Jo Barry victorious at the Regionals

H&C's blogger Jo Barry went home with three wins under her belt after competing at the Scotland Winter Regional Championships. Partnered by her own and Lady Hope’s six-year-old Rosario gelding Rameau II, she headed the novice open music freestyle with 76.02%. Jo then went on to take the medium music freestyle and the medium open with her eight-year-old Dutch-bred gelding Vivaldi V with 74.06% and 71.98% respectively.
“I was delighted with both horses, particularly as the snow had hindered our preparation,” said Jo. “I hadn’t been able to work them since the Tuesday before so we were really up against it. Luckily, on the day we left, a local farmer came to the rescue with his tractor and snow plough so we could get the lorry out!”
“Rameau is a big moving horse so we’ve had to give him time to find his balance. He used to be quite shy in the arena too but he’s really learnt to perform over recent months and it’s great because he’s now beginning to feel proud of himself.”
“They’re quite different characters as Vivaldi on the other hand thinks he’s the bee’s knees,” explained Jo. “On Saturday he was a bit wild but then settled to get some good marks. Our freestyle music, which includes Jupiter from Holst’s Planets suite and Bizet’s Carmen is goose bump music. As he goes up the levels there’ll come a time when I can no longer use it. It’ll be a pity as I adore it!”
Jo will be heading to Carl Hester’s for training in the run up to the winter championships.
Jennifer Johnston and Carmen Gammie enjoyed a successful show winning two classes each. Aboard Donnergott, her ten-year-old Donnersohn gelding, she headed the advanced medium music freestyle as well as the advanced medium open. Carmen, 13, and her eight-year-old 14hh Welsh pony Champagne Bubbles more than held their own against the seniors heading both the novice open and the elementary restricted.
