Ellen Whitaker and Richard Davison will be getting on their bikes at this year's British Open to raise money for the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund’s Poundcatcher appeal. The show jumper and dressage rider are taking part in a charity cycle ride on an exercise bike and everybody can participate at the Championships.
The riders will launch the John O’Groats to Lands End bike ride on Friday 9 April on the Horseboxworld exercise bike to begin the 970km journey. Anyone can contribute to the event by jumping on the exercise bike themselves at the show and completing a few kilometres towards the target distance. Cyclists will be asked to make a donation or submit their own sponsorship before participating. Those feeling less athletic can sponsor friends and family to ‘have a go’ instead.
“If you find yourself at an event and as you go round the trade stands, it would just take a few minutes to contribute to what is really the only national charity injured riders can turn to when they are in need. And it’s a healthy way to do it!” explains John Hardman, MD of Horseboxworld.
As well as the British Open, the Horseboxworld bike will be located on the Horseboxworld stand at most of the major events throughout the summer including the Festival of the Horse and the Royal International Horse Show, as well as on the MDIRF stand at the Badminton and Burghley Horse Trials. Events and locations will be posted on both websites.
Donations can be made at the events or online on the links below where you can track the Ride’s progress as it visits major shows across the disciplines.
