Dutch dressage rider Anky van Grunsven's top horse Salinero will have to have three weeks off being ridden, due to an injury.
The double Olympic gold medal winning horse has injured his withers and will not be ridden the next few weeks. Anky released the news of this minor injury on her website.
The 16-year old Hanoverian gelding (by Salieri x Lungau) most likely got cast in his stable overnight because in the morning he had a swelling on one side of his withers. The vet diagnosed that the capsule around the protrusions of the withers' vertebrae is damaged.
"It is nothing really serious, but because I can't put a saddle on now, I won't be able to ride Salinero for the next three weeks," said Anky.
Salinero took the Grand Prix Freestyle at the World Dressage Master Palm Beach in February. This setback should not affect her ambition to ride at the World Equestrian Games later in the; the final Dutch selection trial is set to take place at Hickstead in July.
