For most people, watching the thrills and spills of cross country day at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials on 26th to 29th August is excitement enough, however adrenaline junkies will have a unique opportunity to take part in extreme sport this year, H&C has learned.
For the first time ever, the Blair Castle Charitable Trust has given permission for an abseil from the Castle Tower. The abseil will be organised by and raise money for the 2010 nominated charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.
On Friday 27th and Saturday 28th visitors to the event will be the first to attempt the tricky abseil from the top of Cumming’s Tower which is the oldest (and tallest) part of the Castle dating back to the 13th Century. No experience is necessary as full instruction will be given by a team of experts.
Sarah Troughton, Head Trustee, Blair Charitable Trust will be among those taking up the challenge and said: “I am enormously excited about the abseil down Cumming’s Tower and look forward, with some trepidation, to being one of the first to take the leap.”
Shirley Millar of Macmillan Cancer Support said: “Macmillan are delighted to have been chosen as Charity of the Year by Blair Castle International Horse Trials and it is fantastic to raise money by offering something that has never been done before.”
The abseil will take place on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th August. Registration costs £12 per participant but this allows access to the Horse Trials for the whole day for the participant and up to three friends or family.
So if you would like to join, just email eastscotland@macmillan.org.uk and raise a minimum £100 for a great cause.
