New inter-regional competition for young para-equestrian riders

Para-equestrian dressage riders will have the chance to compete in the first ever inter-regional Para Dressage Competition in Somerset next month (23-24 July).

The competition, which is being organised by British Dressage (BD) in conjunction with the British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF) Regional Foundation Squads, is being held at Millfield School in Street, Somerset.

It’s anticipated that some 20 riders from across five regions will take part in this inaugural event which offers young para-equestrian dressage riders the chance to train in a competition environment and develop the skills required to be part of a team.

“This is a great opportunity for up and coming para-equestrian dressage riders to develop their riding skills in a competition environment,” said David Hamer BEF Regional Squad Coordinator. “Many of the riders will not have had access to international judges before so gaining advice and education from them via the competition will be very beneficial. And add to this the benefit of getting support from top level Coaches – and this will be a valuable learning experience.

“We hope that this proves to be a successful event with the aim that we can replicate the inter regional structure which already exists for able-bodied dressage riders.”

The competition is open to members of the BEF Regional Foundation Programme and Regional Youth Teams from Scotland and Wales, together with visiting riders from overseas. For more information on the event visit www.britishdressage.co.uk or email amandaheath@britishdressage.co.uk
