Kennel Club aids recession hit owners

The economic climate of the past few years has been tough - not just for the British public, but their pets too, say the Kennel Club.

Tailwaggers Club Trust helps dogs and cats whose owners are unable to meet the cost of veterinary bills. The recession has dramatically increased the number of people seeking emergency help when redundancy, ill health and even divorce can all have a detrimental effect on a person’s ability to provide for their pet.

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust was set up to assist organisations just like Tailwaggers. Recognising their good work and the recent high volume of requests, the Kennel Club Charitable Trust has awarded the charity £5,000.

Beverly Cuddy, Chairman of the Tailwaggers Club Trust, said: “We rely on grants from organisations such as the Kennel Club Charitable Trust to help us continue our good work supporting cats and dogs in need of veterinary care. Often the owners have found them in unfortunate circumstances and are not able to pay for their pet’s care, sometimes resulting in them being put down.

“Very often, families on the bread-line are forced to make hard choices as they may be ineligible for help elsewhere. We all know what a difference a dog or cat can make to a person’s life and it can be heartbreaking to see them struggle due to their financial situation.

“Within this current climate, the applications to our charity continue to increase and so we are extremely grateful to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust and our other supporters who help us to continue to provide for those in need.”

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust funds a wide variety of work ranging from supporting research into canine diseases, dog welfare organisations and the promotion of support dogs, all of which give dogs healthier, happier lives.

Founded in 1987, the Charitable Trust has donated over £4.5 million to support organisations such as Tailwaggers Club Trust so that they can continue to do their great and much needed work. Please click the link below for more information on how to donate.
