Youngsters from the London Boroughs of Bexley and Greenwich have the chance to get hooked on fishing at Birchmere Lake in Thamesmead Town on Monday 16 August.

Increase environmental awareness

The day of activities, jointly hosted by Thames 21 and the Environment Agency, will offer young people the opportunity to take up angling, as well as increasing their awareness of the environment.

The youngsters will be talked through every step of the process of landing their first catch, from choosing bait to reeling in all sorts of fish, including roach, bream and perch.

Just turn up

The events will run from 10am until 3pm. Fishing tackle, bait and licences will be provided on the day and all those that take part will receive a free goody bag. No need to book just turn up.

Environment Agency Fisheries Officer Dave Bartlett said: “This is a great opportunity for the residents of Bexley and Greenwich, especially juniors, to learn a new skill and something about the aquatic environment, and have a fun day out. And it’s all free!”
