H&C is dusting off our hats with news that Ellen Whitaker has become engaged to her Superman actor boyfriend Henry Cavill. 

Surprise proposal

According to Ellen's official website EllenWhitaker.com, Henry surprised Ellen by popping the question in a Hollywood hotel having telephoned her dad Stephen earlier in the evening to ask his permission.

A delighted Ellen accepted straight away. She said: "I couldn't believe it when he asked me to marry him. I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy."

Handsome actor

Henry, who has starred in a number of films and TV shows including The Tudors, The Count of Monte Cristo and Stardust, was cast as the new Superman for the 2012 film Superman: Man of Steel.
