The King George V Cup, celebrating its 150th anniversary and one of Britain’s most coveted show jumping trophies is bound for America after victory was claimed by Kent Farrington. Watch our interview with Kent below.
The home side did their best to keep the Cup on British soil, filling five of the ten slots in the jump-off. Robert Smith was best of the bunch, finishing less than half a second behind the winner in one of the most exciting jump offs for years.
Kent, who has never been to Hickstead before was unsurprisingly delighted with his horse Uceko, who he has been riding since a seven-year-old and is a horse he rates as an Olympic prospect. Uceko was also his ride in the Nations Cup on Friday and he will now compete at the RDS in Dublin next week before returning home.
Third place went to Leon Thijssen for the Netherlands and Tim Stockdale was fourth with last year’s winner Fresh Direct Kalico Bay. Our hearts sank when Ben Maher had the final planks after a storming round that might have won him the Cup.
