Show jumping shake up
The final phase proved influential, with cross-country leader Sam Griffiths picking up 14 penalities that dropped him to fifth place. The 'Eraser' fence - the final planks - took several scalps, while Alex Hua Tian and Harry Meade (eventual third) cleared the jump to finish the show jumping on -3 penalties each.
The cross-country, by contrast, was completed with ease by most of the competitors, although a narrow corner did catch out a few people. Flora Harris, Jo Chipperfield and Alice Kent ended up accumulating three refusals apiece that led to their elimination.
Most of the riders opted for up tempo, modern music pieces that appealed to the Horse of the Year Show crowd. However, technicality was still key and Matthew, Sam Griffiths and Fraser Duffy all impressed in the first phase. Another who put in a very accomplished test was Alex Hua Tian - listen to his thoughts on the superstar stallion Grafenstolz here.
