Video: Top jockeys hurry to HOYS, and the Leading Showjumper of the Year crowned

By Jenny Rudall on 9th-Oct-2011

The final day of HOYS ended on a high note with a brilliant celebrity 'hurry scurry' (see video below) and the conclusion of the Leading Show Jumper of the Year title.

Nick Skelton started favourite for Sunday night's Grand Prix finale, but he could only manage second place in the end behind Mexico's Jaime Guerra. Riding the 10-year-old bay Utopias, Jaime was the only rider to have a double clear and secure the title.

Nick shared joint second having finished on exactly the same time as Wout-Jan van der Schans.

Having dominated throughout the show, the British contingent didn't have it all their own way on the final day - with the other main class of the day, the Vinopolis Speed Horse of the Year, going to Julien Epaillard and Commissario.

Jockeys hurry to HOYS

The displays at HOYS are among the highlights of the show, and the Celebrity Hurry Scurry this year was no exception. With three Whitakers lining up to compete alongside jockeys Willy Twiston-Davies, Andrew Thornton, Tom Siddall, Mark Bradburne, Timmy Murphy, Luke Harvey and Carl Llewellyn, the competition was fierce.

The title was taken in breathtaking style by Scott Brash, Grand National winner Timmy Murphy and scurry driver Alison Millman - with ponies Branston and Pickle.

The H&C team joined the winners back stage to congratulate them and to find out if Timmy was going to take up show jumping.
