Charlotte Dujardin spearheaded a British one-two-three-four in the Reem Acra FEI World Cup dressage qualifier at Olympia, scoring an amazing 81.043% with the nine-year-old Valegro.
"It was my goal all year to hit the 80% mark and my previous highest was at the Europeans. He's never been in an arena like this but he relaxed, and that helped me relax," said Charlotte.
"This year has been incredible, and Valegro is still only nine."
The pair finished ahead of Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Horjis (79.234%), who put in an assured performance to secure the runners-up spot.
In third place was Carl Hester and Uthopia (75.477%) - Charlotte is Carl's protegee - while Richard Davison and Hiscox Artemis were fourth.
Carl noted that his horse Uthopia had a couple of moments of lost concentration in the pirouettes which were costly. "But I'm hugely proud of Charlotte and I'm convinced that Valegro could win gold at the Olympics," he said.
A look ahead to the kur
All four will take part in tomorrow's Grand Prix Freestyle. They will be joined by fellow British rider Henriette Andersen, who finished ninth.
