Laura Bechtolsheimer wins the FEI World Cup Dressage qualifier at Olympia

By Victoria Spicer on 14th-Dec-2011

For the second day in a row, the British riders took the top four placings at the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage qualifier at Olympia, with Laura Bechtolsheimer topping the line up.

Only half a percent divided the top three of Laura Bechtolsheimer, Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester, while Richard Davison finished in fourth place.

Laura best of the Brits

Laura and the huge chestnut Mistral Hojris put in an immaculate test that judge Stephen Clarke described as showing "fantastic impulsion and no mistakes".

Laura commented that Olympia was "a difficult show for Alf, but a special one for me - he does struggle with the atmosphere a little bit. But today he felt so on the button and it was nice to have that security with him."

An incredible year for Charlotte

In second place - a reversing of the previous day's results - was Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro.

"I'm really pleased with my test, there were a few little mistakes but I'm still getting to grips with him," said Charlotte. "I did my first ever Grand Prix in January, and I did my second kur today and got 83%."

Carl Hester finished third on Uthopia, who was taking part in his first major indoor competition.

"He went the best he could go tonight and I had a great ride on him with such lovely lightness," said European gold medallist Carl.

High scores

With all three riders scoring more than 83%, the British trio were awarded the highest marks of any of the qualifier so far this series.

"It's a dream come true nationally, and I think the riders did a fantastic job tonight. Congratulations to all three for such huge scores," said Stephen Clarke.
