On Monday 18 June 2012, Equestrian Australia's selection committee for the Eventing discipline identified the five athletes to be nominated to the Australian Olympic Committee for selection to the 2012 Australian Olympic Team.
The five athletes put forward are Andrew Hoy, Chris Burton, Shane Rose, Lucinda and Clayton Fredericks.
H&C spoke to Clayton en route to the Isle of Wight to celebrate selection and fellow Australian Sam Griffiths 40th birthday, he commented “It’s a lifetime dream for any rider or athlete to represent their country at an Olympics, and to do it twice is doubly amazing, but to do it twice with your wife is incredible. Living here we feel like this is a home games for us as well and we know we will have loads of fans here to support us”
Clayton will be riding Bendigo at the games and when asked about him and his own current fitness after a recent fall he said “the horse came fourth at the test event, so he knows the terrain. He is incredibly fit and it’s been great to be able to focus him on the games after an early qualification. I went out recently to win, to show we were both 100% fit and still on form and I have high hopes for the games”
