Cian O’Connor has made full use of his last-minute place in the Olympic showjumping individual final by jumping a superb clear round at Greenwich park this afternoon (8 July).
After the first two qualifying rounds Cian finished equal 38th with 12 faults, which put him just outside the top 35. He was offered a place as Swedish rider Rolf Goran Bengtsson’s horse Cassal was withdrawn.
The two riders ahead of Cian couldn’t compete as only three riders from each nation can take part in the individual final.
The Irish rider was first to jump today on his horse Blue Lloyd 12 and they put in a class performance to make it into the top 20 and the second round. Cian is currently in joint first place with five other riders, which includes Nick Skelton and Scott Brash.
