A British Eventing Young Rider team gold medallist is among 11 Pony Club members to pass their 'A' Test this year.
The list of successful candidates for 2012 include Hollie Cartwright (Clifton on Teme Hunt), Hector Payne (Puckeridge Hunt), David Britnell (Old Berkeley Hunt (Chilterns) Jessica Campbell (Sandown Chase), Clara Pilkington (Tickham Hunt), Samantha Crowe (Burton Hunt), Charlotte Agnew (Duke of Buccleugh's Hunt), Alycia Port (Eridge Hunt), Rory Newton-Dunn (Romney Marsh), Alice Bell (Moray & Nairn) and Bethan Eckley (South Hereford & Ross Harriers).
Charlotte Agnew, who represented Great Britain at Junior and Young Rider level and competes in four-star events, passed her A Test with honours.
"I had a great day!” she said. “I must admit I was quite nervous, but the examiners made me feel at ease. For me, passing with Honours was a huge confidence boost, and I would thoroughly recommend the A Test route to anyone interested in furthering their own riding career."
The Pony Club ‘A’ Test is the highest level of exam for members, and is held by many top equestrians such as Jeanette Brakewell, Mary King and Antoinette McKeowen.
Candidates have to ride a number of unknown horses on the flat, over show jumps and cross-country fences during the exam, as well as demonstrating a practical knowledge of lungeing to improve a horse's way of going and training young horses. The Test is on a level with the BHS stage IV riding and horse care exam.
