The missing family pony Tic Toc has been found dead, causing his owners “utter devastation”.
The 24-year-old grey gelding went missing from his field in Ramsey St Mary's in Cambridgeshire at the beginning of December. The Carnegie family launched a nationwide hunt in a bid to find their pony and reunite him with their five-year-old son, Joshua.
The Facebook and Twitter campaign caught the attention of the whole nation, including a number of celebrities such as Clare Balding and Dawn French.
Since his death was announced by family friend Philip Ward-Burton yesterday, messages of condolences have flooded in. The owners have not released a statement as to the cause of Tic Toc’s death, but he was reportedly found half a mile from where he went missing.
“It is with the utmost sadness that I have to write this and inform everyone that Tic Toc has been found and I'm afraid to say it's the worst possible end to the search for him that was hoped for,” Philip wrote. “I personally dealt with the recovery and removal of him as it was far too much for Catriona and her family to face.
“Not only has Catriona had the trauma of the past couple months since him going, but now has to deal with the utter devastation it has brought upon her. Catriona would like to express from the bottom of her heart her thanks and gratitude to every single person who has shown support and given help in the search for him.”
