Monty Roberts is one of the best known names in the horseworld. He shot to fame after the publication of his first book, The Man Who Listens to Horses, which went on to sell five million copies. Monty grew up in Nevada, where he observed mustangs in the wild and noticed how they interacted with each other, using a silent but powerful language to communicate, set boundaries, show fear, express annoyance, relaxation or affection. It led to him creating the revolutionary equine training technique and philosophy, Join-Up®. He is based at his home, Flag Is Up Farm in California, but Monty travels around the world giving talks, clinics and demonstrations of his technique. He appears in several series on H&C TV, including 'Backstage Pass' – where viewers got to see first-hand how Monty's methods work.
Kelly Marks is Monty's protégée, and the founder of 'Intelligent Horsemanship'. She competed in British Showjumping classes and amateur races in her youth, before a chance meeting with Monty Roberts led to her becoming the first-ever teacher of his methods in the world. Kelly is a specialist in horse behaviour and psychology, and she helps owners find workable solutions for their horses – something viewers can discover in the series 'Top Marks'.
